Singhare Ka Halwa (Recipe+Video) | सिंघाड़े के आटे का हलवा कैसे बनाते हैं | Singhare Ke atte Ka Halwa Recipe

October 20, 2020 by Srirup

Singhare Ke Atte Ka Halwa Recipe is a popular recipe that is generally made during upvas or fasting. Whether you are fasting for Navratri or Ekadashi or Shivratri.

Singhare Ka atta is called Water Chestnut Flour in English. Loaded with health benefits this flour is commonly used for vrat recipes.

Halwa is a popular sweet dish which is known as pudding in English. And We often make Halwa with (Suji - Semolina) or (Atta- Whole Wheat Flour) or (Besan - Gram Flour).

But, when we are fasting or in a period of vrat, we often use Singhare Ka atta or Kuttu Ka atta to make Halwa.

We Indians generally fast during Ekadashi, Navratri, Shivratri, Kali Puja and etc. Many people stay on vrat during Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

In these times, we cannot consume Maida, Suji, or Besan. Because these are considered "Aan". And we are very strict about fasting. We must eat - "Satvik Food"! We can eat Fal or Fruits but we cannot eat Aan.

And, the best alternative to these three is Singhare ka Atta(Water Chestnut Flour) or Kuttu Ka Atta(Buckwheat Flour), Rajgire Ka Atta (Amaranth Flour), or Sama Ke Chawal Ka atta (Barnyard Millet flour).

I have already made Samvat Ke Chawal Ka Halwa. You can check the recipe. It was so good.

Singhare Ka Halwa Benefits | Singhare ka halwa ke fayde

Singhara or water chestnut is a brilliant food with so many health benefits. Here we'll discuss these health benefits.

  • People suffering from Asthama should always consume singhara as fruit or make a halwa of it.
  • If you have cracked feet, then Singhara will help you heal it.
  • If you are feeling weak during fasting, then this halwa will give you an instant boost of energy.
  • Singhara has lots of calcium and will help you keep your bones strong.

Tips to Make the Perfect Singhara Halwa

If you are making Singhare ke atte ka halwa for the first time, then try following these tips. It will help you make the best halwa.

  • Use Hot water or Milk - One of the major concerns of Halwa is lumps. So, when we use hot water or lumps we basically prevent the formation of lumps.
  • Stir Continuously - Always keep your spatula moving. If you have made Halwa (Moong Dal Halwa) you might know how much of a task this is. You have to stir continuously so that there are no lumps in it.

How to Make Singhare Ke Atte Ka Halwa?

  • Heat Ghee in a Pan and once Ghee is hot, add Singhare ka atta and mix well.

  • Keep the flame on low and stir continuously. As you keep stirring the atta will get roasted. And you will start getting a good smell. This process takes about 5-6 minutes on low flame.

  • While you are roasting the Halwa, put another pot with some water to boil in a separate stove or microwave oven.
  • Your water should be boiling. If it's a little cold you will get lumps. As soon as the water gets bubbling hot pour it into the pan with roasted Singhare ka atta and stir well.

  • As the sheera or halwa soaks all the water add sugar. Add as much sugar as you like. Stir well and in about 2-minutes on medium flame, it will become shiny.

Adding sugar to halwa

  • Stir for some more time until you see ghee separating from the sides. At that time, turn off the flame.

  • Garnish it with Chopped Almonds, cashew nuts, and raisin in your halwa, and Enjoy.

Is it Ok to Consume Nuts during Vrat?

Yes, during fasting we can add Cashew Nuts or Almonds or raisins in our Navratri recipes or Vrat wali recipes and make them more delicious. They will add a little bite to our dish and make them look more appetizing.

Other Variations & Substitutions for this recipe:

  • Make Singhare Ke Atte Ki Barfi - To make this in the form of barfi, just take out this halwa in a square plate. Cool it down to room temperature and then freeze it overnight. Next morning, cut it into squares or diamond shape and you have beautiful Singhare Ke Atte Ki barfi ready!
  • Use Milk instead of water - If you want a richer and creamier texture then add milk instead of water while making your halwa.

How Much Sugar Should We Add?

This is a pretty easy recipe. However, the quantity of sugar is what people are confused about. So, follow this step while making the halwa.

My general rule of thumb is to add ½ the quantity of sugar to the quantity of flour. So, for 2 Cup of Flour (250gm), I used 1 cup (125gm) of Sugar. Similarly, if you are using 1 Cup of Singhare Ka Atta (125gm) then use ½ Cup of Sugar (63gm)

Other Fasting Recipes:

  • Sabudana Vada
  • Kuttu Ka Chilla
  • Kuttu Ki Puri
  • Sabudana Khichdi
  • Falhari Peanut Chutney
  • Apple Kheer
  • Vrat Wale Aloo
