August 26, 2020 by Surup

Paneer Kali Mirch Recipe

Paneer Kali Mirch is a popular North Indian Paneer recipe that can be made in less than 30-minutes. As an Indian, we make paneer often. In fact, in my home, we make paneer at least twice or sometimes thrice in a week. And, we are so bored with those same old Shahi Paneer recipe and Paneer Butter Masala. Many times I feel like we should try something new and therefore today I am happy to share this unique paneer recipe with you guys.

Paneer Kali Mirch Recipe

This is Paneer Kali Mirch which you can also call Black Pepper Paneer. It's so tasty you guys. The recipe is a beautiful combination of sweet and savory. Kali Mirch or black pepper produces a natural heat that is not too spicy and complements our paneer.

Making this Paneer recipe requires very few ingredients. But, of course, you need some whole black peppercorns. Not much, just something 10-12 peppercorns.

  • Ghee
  • shahi jeera
  • mace or Javitri
  • chopped onions
  • Dried Red Chilies
  • Ginger Garlic Paste
  • Cashew Nut Paste
  • Paneer cut in 1-inch Cubes

Paneer Kali Mirch Recipe

So, there you go guys. These are just simple ingredients that we all have in our homes. Ghee is totally optional. You can skip it if you feel it would make the dish unhealthy.

Shahi Jeera has a unique taste which makes the recipe sort of royal. When you add shahi jeera in ghee or oil along with some mace or javitri and some black peppercorns the smell is just wow! In fact, I also love the beautiful sound of the sizzle. In my boring day, this sound and this smell make me sort of at peace with myself.

How to Make Kali Mirch Paneer? An Overview

You are obviously gonna find the entire recipe below. But this is just an overview just so that you can be more sort of aware of what to do and when to do and how to do it.

While making Paneer Kali Mirch we need to first brown our onions with whole black peppercorns, shahi jeera, and Javitri. Once our onions have turned light brown, we turn off the heat, transfer them to a plate and let them cool down completely. Once they are at room temperature, we make a paste of that and keep it aside.

In a separate pan, we add some ghee or butter. Into that, we add some dried red chilies and as they begin to sizzle we add the onion paste that we had prepared. After that, we add our ginger garlic paste. (I made it at home, but you can easily get it in any shop these days).

Let the raw smell of ginger and garlic go away. So cook on low flame until everything looks properly cooked and you see oil oozing out from the sides. Then add your paneer cubes and serve with some more crushed black peppers on top.

So, that's how you make Kali Mirch Paneer at home. Wasn't that an easy peasy Paneer recipe?
